HOCl vs OCl−: clarification on chlorine-based disinfectants used within clinical settings

چکیده

Disinfection is a mainstay of infection prevention, the importance which was highlighted throughout SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. There frequent misuse terminology surrounding chlorine solutions in literature. This leads not only to confusion but has potentially dangerous outcomes, as inappropriate mixing with other disinfectants or cleaning can lead release gas. article provides resource for accurate chlorine-based disinfection and clarifies some key inaccuracies, including pH-dependent nature species distribution hypochlorous acid (HOCl) (neutral/acidic solution) hypochlorite (OCl-) (alkaline solution). Misuse misunderstanding used be harmful therefore this an essential those utilising disinfectant.

Chlorine Disinfectants and Orp Control

INTRODUCTION The science of water disinfection is still a relatively new field for the tree fruit industry, as the widespread use of water disinfectants in this marketplace has only been occurring over the past couple of decades. In comparison, industrial water systems such as open recirculating cooling systems and evaporative condensers have been receiving chemical treatment for over five deca...

Evidence that monochloramine disinfectant could lead to elevated Pb levels in drinking water.

Many water districts have recently shifted from free chlorine (in the form of HOCl/OCl-) to monochloramine (NH2-Cl) as a disinfectant for drinking water to lower the concentration of chlorinated hydrocarbon byproducts in the water. There is concern that the use of NH2Cl disinfectant may lead to higher Pb levels in drinking water. In this study, the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance is...

Stability and effectiveness of chlorine disinfectants in water distribution systems.

A test system for water distribution was used to evaluate the stability and effectiveness of three residual disinfectants--free chlorine, combined chlorine, and chlorine dioxide--when challenged with a sewage contaminant. The test distribution system consisted of the street main and internal plumbing for two barracks at Fort George G. Meade, MD. To the existing pipe network, 152 m (500 ft) of 1...

Validating Metrics for OCL Expressions Expressed within UML/OCL models

Measuring quality is the key to developing high-quality software, and it is widely acknowledged that quality assurance of software products must be guaranteed from the early stages of development, assessing through metrics the quality of early models such as UML diagrams. There exists several proposals of metrics to UML diagrams, such as class diagrams, use case diagrams, etc. But, even though ...

Interactions Between Copper and Chlorine Disinfectants: Chlorine Decay, Chloramine Decay and Copper Pitting

Interactions between copper and chlorine disinfectants were examined from the perspective of disinfectant decay and copper pitting corrosion. Sparingly soluble cupric hydroxide catalyzed the rapid decay of free chlorine, which in turn, led to production of less soluble and more crystalline phases of cupric hydroxide. The catalytic activity of the cupric hydroxide was retained over multiple cycl...
